The UNHCR webinar on the 2027 Projected Global Resettlement Needs (PGRN) and Safe Pathways Update explored evolving global displacement trends and the growing gap between resettlement needs and available protection pathways. Participants highlighted that while resettlement remains a vital responsibility-sharing mechanism for refugees facing acute vulnerabilities, complementary pathways such as family reunification, education, and labour mobility continue to expand unevenly across regions. Discussions also emphasized that persistent conflict, insecurity, and shrinking resettlement quotas underscore the need for stronger international cooperation and greater investment in safe and legal pathways to protection.
